Do you fellows ban for post quality as well?
I was banned a while ago with a message somewhere along the lines of "I just don't care for you as a person" and I'm honestly not sure what post it was for. Actually I seem to have been banned yesterday as well with the same message, Was nowhere near here then though. Oddly it's only from /w/ though.

Hello /w/, I am in need of assistance. I want a mosin nagant. I can't find one around here. So, I'd like to order it online. I'm looking for something in decent shape for dirt cheap. Does anyone know of any good deals?

Meh. I left all the cosmoline in the wood. Getting a Mosin with a ton of cosmo on it is a good thing. It means you're getting a relatively fresh out of the drum it was sitting in.

Cleaning the shit out of the internals is easy. I just soaked my bolt in gas overnight. I wiped out the receiver with a gas soaked cotton ball and q-tips. A lot of people like to put their stocks in the oven or in a garbage bag in the sun to bake out the cosmoline.

Mosins are great rifles but as with any milsurp firearm, your mileage may vary. Also, please don't 'refurb' it or 'bubba' it. These things make my soul ache.
>> No. 16933
>>16931

Agree that cosmoline isn't really a problem, but I'd suggest disassembling the bolt. I've soaked them in mineral spirits to clean out the gunk only to find more gunk inside the bolt around the firing pin. YMMV and all, but it's easy.

Also, if the dreaded sticky bolt rears it's head when shooting, affix a 16 or 20 gauge bore brush to a drill. Soak the brush in hoppes and use that to clean the chamber.

Try waiting for a gun show in your area.

If not, there are still plenty of sites where you can find one for under $100. 91/30s will usually be in good enough condition because they were all refurbed in the decades after WW2 and put in storage until just recently.

There is no pricing on that website. Even so, unless you have a FFL of somesort he's going to have to pay for transfer fees and shipping. These two things alone usually negate any cost savings when buying nuggets online.

How would you even shoot this thing?
>> No. 17500
I'm not sure how practical this gun would be. It looks bulky and heavy as hell and I can imagine that the kick from that thing is going to be pretty powerful. I'm not sure what the uses for it would be; assuming that the barrel length is equivalent to that of a regular revolver (6-8 inches) than the range and accuracy of it is going to be greatly hindered.

>> No. 17512

I don't see what having an imagination has to do with this thing. With all things considered this weapon is pretty much only good as a conversation starter. It looks awkward and heavy, probably has a tremendous kick, and is going to have shit for range. A derringer would have more of a practicality and effectiveness to it than this weapon.

But if imagination is the only thing we're going for why don't we add a laser sight and bayonet to it? Oh and we can also throw a flashlight and flash suppressor on there too.

Seeing as how here at 99chan we like to think we are a little classier than the rest of the internet, I thought at least a few of you might share my interest in antique and military surplus firearms.

I purchased these two Mosin Nagant M91 rifles at a gun show yesterday. The rifle on the top of the picture is a 1916 "Peter The Great" made at Tula arsenal. It is a mismatch for the most part but I found it interesting that the trigger was made at Chatterault in the early 1890s. The other one is a 1922 Tula M91.

I also bought an 18 inch lockring bayonet to go with my M91s. They are somewhat hard to find and I am glad somebody at the show had one (and only one).

Range Report:

I took it to the local BLM land. I was having some issues getting rounds to feed. After about two magazines I realized it was caused by me not cycling through the full action of the lever.

It kept shaving off pieces of lead and bending the lip of the casing as it fed into the chamber but I found this to be negligible. The action was smooth as silk and I was able to hit a 4" x 12" piece of steel 8/9 times at 130 yards.

Once I got past the user generated errors the rifle was working flawlessly. I am very happy with my purchase.

He is using the same 100 drum mags I have. 100 round drums are much better than 30's. Especially since you can load the drum with out having tension on the spring. You use a butterfly thumb screw to create tension when needed so you never have a weak spring causing a malfunction.

So I learned how to use and strip one of these last week. I had a harder time learning how to operate my coffee machine at home, than I did to strip this rifle. It's like a big lego or something. Twice at the range, other recruits forgot to lock the single-shot button, and accidentally went full-auto for about ten rounds. Both were right beside me, scared the daylights out of me too.

And not sixty seconds after being warned about it, a girl recruit got steyr-eye from putting her face too close to the optical sight.

Good times...

This x2. I've wanted an AUG ever since I first lay eyes on one 6 years ago. The stripping on them is indeed absurdly easy, definitely on par with the AK. You really don't even need instructions. It's a shame that Steyr ceased importing all their lines into the US of A two years ago. Also they cost a month's salary for a civilian.
Besides the point, where do you live? By the reference of recruits, I assume you're training in some military division. How're you holding up?
Also, I never understood this: considering Steyr's obsession with versatility, why is the military version of the AUG produced with the fixed optic? I would have expected the top rail to be the military standard.

I was an Australian Navy recruit, before I got a medical discharge for an injury.

Taking the barrel out of the rifle takes aqbout two seconds, there's a little button just aft of the forward handgrip, you press on it, twist it clockwise, and the whole barrel comes out. The trigger mechanism is just a little plastic carriage full of bits, you just drop it into the butt stock, you don't need to position it or fix it in or anything.

Recruits train with fixed-sight rifles, because they are cheaper (and the recruit school armory has about 600 of them in a big safe that have got to be used up) but the navy proper is phasing them out in favor of the F88S, which has a rail and detachable/adjustable sights. The fixed sight doubles as a carrying handle and a take-up point, but the S variant doesn't really leave enough room for hands, especially gloved hands, to pick it up from there. The steyrs balance point is on the wider rear part of the sight, reducing fatigue when carrying it from there.

Recruits train with standard F88's in classroom and on the range, but they use F88S variant compressed-air weapon training simulators on the big video game machine. It's pretty neat, it's like a big dark cinema where you get to shoot at the screen on a simulated range. Lasers and such give you accurate feedback as to your pre-fire breathing patterns, your trigger-snatch, recoil motion, groupings, etc. I only wish they would adapt it for use with call of duty or something instead of just boring targets.

I think this rifle is the compact with the rail, what they call a F88S-A1C, pretty much what we'd use in the WTS, except with air hoses and sensors pouring out of it.

sounds like an invitation for nervous troops to shoot up a building full of civilians. Though, I don't know what the current protocol is on engaging hidden targets in civilian structures and whether or not you're permitted to level it with explosives if you suspect it contains a sniper.
>> No. 15844

That's exactly what they do. SOP for infantry for years now has been to pin down the enemy and then call in heavy firepower. Either mortars, or heavy artillery, or tank rounds, or perhaps an AT4, or even an airstrike. It has led to much lower casualties on our side because we don't have to pin down and engage the enemy.

It's also what makes urban warfare such a bitch. It's much more difficult to pin down and use heavy weapons on an enemy inside a city.
>> No. 15882

Once an enemy uses a structure it is designated as an enemy structure. That is the official ruling by the international laws of war. It isn't always followed though, during the US invasion of Afghanistan US troops were not allowed to blow up mosques even if enemy troops were using them, all part of some PR bullshit.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but thought I'd share some insight re: civilians on the battlefield.

ROE changes sometimes daily in theater and is heavily dependent on where you're at within the country/province/city/district/etc. In general, civilians that are co-mingled with the enemy (i.e. not hostages, but appear free to move with/through the enemy) are legitimate targets. Now if they're running around trying to get the hell out of the way, that's one thing, but if they're just chilling next to a dude firing an RPG at Coalition Forces for example, not doing anything to stop them, even if they don't have a weapon in their hand, they're probably going to get lit the fuck up. That's what happened to that Reuters photographer that got killed in Iraq a while ago, and why the Apache pilot+gunner didn't get UCMJ'd. ROE clearly stated the bit about civilians co-mingling with enemy combatants.

I've seen a custom .357 magnum 1911 before, this is the first I've seen mass produced. I don't really see the point, especially as you're not getting much additional capacity in a single stack 1911. S&W makes an 8 shot .357, and plenty of manufacturers make 7 shot .357 revolvers...

Unless you're big om collecting 1911's or really just want .357 magnum power on a 1911 trigger, I wouldn't bother.

"The critical wounding components for handgun ammunition, in order of importance, are penetration and permanent cavity.33The bullet must penetrate sufficiently to pass through vital organs and be able to do so from less than optimal angles. For example, a shot from the side through an arm must penetrate at least 10-12 inches to pass through the heart. A bullet fired from the front through the abdomen must penetrate about 7 inches in a slender adult just to reach the major blood vessels in the back of the abdominal cavity. Penetration must be sufficiently deep to reach and pass through vital organs, and the permanent cavity must be large enough to maximize tissue destruction and consequent hemorrhaging."

I disagree with using FMJ for defense when it's legal to shoot JHP. Most police will be using JHP in their weapons so my advice is to find out exactly what the police in your area are using and use that.

Not a bad idea at all.

Yes this is a weapons board, but your post is obviously not serious or informative.

I like this video, and I too would like to know which celtic weapon he's talking about. Perhaps when I get to the celts in this Deadliest Warrior show, they'll have the answer for me.

Hey /w/, I need some help. I've got an m40/42 gas mask (legally obtained) in great condition. I have no use for it, and I want to sell it. However, none of the pawn shops here are interested and, I'm not fond of Ebay. So, where should I sell this thing? Do any of you have an idea as to what I could do with it?
Pic related: That's it, except mine has the carrying case and hood.
>> No. 15901
How much are you asking for it?
>> No. 15902
>>15901
Since it's in such good condition, with a hood and carrying case, somewhere around $150. I'd be willing to trade and price is negotiable as well.

Does that sound kinda high or something?
>> No. 15912
Maybe wait for a gun show to come to town, or try any army surplus stores in your area. You can haggle with people in those places, and probably get a great deal. As for whether or not that's a high asking price, I honestly have no idea.

They sell this sort of thing pretty regularly at gunbroker.com

That's probably your best bet.

I've been considering getting this as my first pistol.

I don't know why but Ive always like the Beretta 92 models. they're easy to field strip. and highly customizable.

But mainly, I prefer the way it feels compared to some of the more popular pistols (Glocks, 1911s, etc...)

So /w/ is it good for a first time buy?

Are you set on a Beretta or are you interested in other manufactuers 92s as well? Tarus is the only alternative choice other than Beretta I can think of off hand (and they make some pimp-tastic gold accented models) but I remember hearing of a few others I cannot remember offhand, though for 600 for the real deal would probably be worth it. Only concerns I could think of is the safety which is personal preference. If you're basing it mainly off of ergonomics, I'd recommend looking at the 96A1, 90TWO, and anything else your gunstore might have that you haven't already had your hands on.

OP
no I am not set on a Beretta. Its just the only gun I have handled that I have liked so far.

>Tarus is the only alternative choice other than Beretta

my local gunshop owner LOVES these guns. I havent handled one yet. but Im also not just looking for the handling but I love cleaning and taking good care of any gun i handle or own. i like guns that are easier to strip (Im lazy) so how easy is it to field strip a Tarus? (the spring in a 1911 annoy me, I know 1911s aren't that complicated, but I like the little disassembly lever on a Beretta)
>> No. 15877
>>15876

For field stripping / cleaning anything milspec is relatively simple. A 1911 might be the most difficult ( note: that's not saying much ) and even something like a Ruger MKII ( not milspec, kinda a PITA ) isn't that bad.

never liked Taurus. i do however love Beretta. the 92A1 is the best pistol i have used. the tac rail is nice for some, but if you prefer not having it, the 92fs is almost as good. i like the A1 look more though. my infatuation started when i was young and got my first airsoft gun. it was an m9 Beretta pistol made by kjw, and field strips much like the real steel. it still works btw. but when my brother bought his m92A1, i was dead set. he doesn't like it as much, but i love it. i do have big hands though. that should be taken into consideration. my ring and index fingers are a size 14, and ~3.5-4'' long. length of hand from wrist to middle tip is 7.2''. big hands love this weapon. not to be sexist, but this is not a ladies gun by most means. my best friend has a 92d centurion. it is a SA no safety or hammer nub variant, that has been through all hell as his fathers edc of choice. it is stubbier and less attractive, but packs a whallop. the hammer is a tad heavy as it has the same hammer spring as the 92A1, and it is strictly SA, so that is to be considered. the Beretta is overall a very durable firearm. if it is comfortable in your hand, there will be few others that will also fit like this does into your hand. as far as ftf's go and fte's, these are very, and i mean VERY, uncommon in the few i have used. and i use old Russian stock spam can shit. brutal shit. as long as she's a clean bird, she'll soar.

pic is 92D centurion.
