Hello people. I'm not huge on most anime, but I have enjoyed some series. Out of the few animes I've seen, I enjoyed Bleach and FMA: Brotherhood a good degree. Yu Yu Hakusho and Desert Punk are the best shows I've ever seen.
This week I finished watching both of the latter through and I'm not really sure what to do at this point, since I'm used to having 112 episodes of a show to plow through. What should I watch? Preferably something that's mainly about punching/shooting/cutting things and not schoolgirl drama.

Yeah. I was hoping some kind soul could give me a recommendation more... specificially relevant.

Well, lets see.

Outlaw star is a good one, kinda like a weird mix of yu yu hakusho with cowboy bebop. The main character has a rare gun that literally fires magic bullets and there are spaceship fist fights. SPACE. SHIP. FIST. FIGHTS.

Gurren Lagann is pretty famous for it's balls to the wall insanity and action.

Claymore is alright, though I think the manga is better.

Gantz is pretty good, though the end sucks and the manga is amazingly better.

Naruto is actually pretty similar to bleach after the time skip once everyone as stopped acting like idiots. Make sure to skip the filler though, for it is terrible.

One Piece is supposed to be good though I've never seen it.

Casshern sins: dunno much about it but I have a friend who raves over it.

Blue gender: If you like Star ship troopers and don't mind the gore and death interspersed with a love story.

Hellsing Ultimate: Super Nazi's vs Unapologetically monstrous vampires.

Toaru Majutsu no Index: Sorta like X-men, but with more "The catholic church is full of insane, super powered nuns".

A lot of the anime you listed is considered to be in this category, so you may find other things you like.

You'll probably really like One Piece and Naruto , since the few animes you listed are all ones I enjoy and I'm not really into anime.

Trigun sounds like the kind of thing you would love.

Black Lagoon is an incredibly kickass action series with a lot of gun fighting action.

Gaogaigar is pretty great if you can manage to slog through the rather bad first 20 episodes.

Cowboy Bebop is also pretty great.

Death Note, for fuck's sake watch Death Note.

Code Geass tells a similar story, except it's much better because the ending isn't shit.

OP, watch Code Geass instead.

If you're gonna watch death note make sure to stop right after you know who dies. You'll know who. It's a major character. Because after he dies it gets Terrible.

It definitely does. The premise sounds a lot like Desert Punk in all the right ways, so that's what I'll be watching next.

Black Lagoon and Outlaw Star I'll probably be watching too, both look awesome. Most likely I'll end up giving Death Note a try at some point, whether I want to or not.

>>341 I'll keep that in mind, thanks.

Thanks for the help everyone, I appreciate it. I'll report back with the results of these endeavors.

I watched an episode each of Trigun and Outlaw Star. I love Outlaw Star, but I just couldn't stand the level of silly anime stuff in Trigun. Every time something was fired, someone made a silly face and did a few little hops. I don't know if that bothers anyone else but it made it hard to enjoy for me.

trigun is a rather awkward mix of comedy and violence. I think you should try watching it again only this time start at episode 12 and if you can make it through the series from that point go back and watch the first eleven episodes

watch claymore, its one of the few series I can actually say that I enjoyed as an adult

So I finished Outlaw Star today. Such a great series, but way too short as usual. The ending was completely weird though, I had no idea what was going on. Comments on the video said something along the line of "shit just went Lagann", so I'll be watching that at some point too.
Oh, and for anyone wondering, Outlaw Star is exactly as awesome as >>309 said.

I don't think I'm done with the starship outlaw thing yet so Cowboy Bebop is next.

Fucking 12 year old, man up and watch all 500+ episodes of One Piece, it'll put some hair on your chest. Well, not literally, I doubt that will ever happen.

What can I say? Cowboy Bebop was just amazing. I had no idea how developed the characters were and how invested I was in them until the end. I haven't seen anything like it, the way the format worked, how seemingly disjointed it was. And that soundtrack.

Black Lagoon?

We're gonna combine! We're gonna combine? They're gonna combine?! They're gonna combine! They're gonna combine.

So I'm watching Gurren Lagann and I'm completely confused but I'm getting to like it. Black Lagoon was just every anime archetype and trope possible, and it felt like they were doing it completely seriously and on purpose at the same time. I stopped after the second episode.

Sounds like you like anime with more than just a hint of comedy then. That's what I loved about Desert Punk, it parodied the shit out of itself.
You'd like Trigun, at least the earlier episodes.

I'm also gonna recommend Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, because it's AWESOME.

I honestly do not recommend Code Geass unless you've watched Death Note and really enjoyed that; it's cool, but it's a bit like Gurren Lagann taking itself seriously.

FLCL has some weird combat shit with robots and what not, but it's been so long that I don't know if there's a lot of it. Still a great anime, though. Just weird as shit. Only six episodes, too.

Also, some of the Gundam series were good. The original Mobile Suit Gundam, Gundam 00 and Gundam SEED are worth watching in my opinion. I've heard good things about 0083 and Unicorn, but haven't seen those. Gundam Wing was good from what I remember, but that was back in the 90s on Toonami so I could have a jaded memory.

Oh, and watch the Cowboy Bebop movie in case you haven't. It's pretty good. Also, the guy who did Cowboy Bebop did Samurai Champloo and that's worth checking out. Maybe not as good as Cowboy Bebop, but still has the same feel and just really bad ass. And the soundtrack is also pretty good if you like Hip Hop. Instead of space it's in feudal Japan.

And if you want another mecha series to look at besides the countless Gundam series, there's always Neon Genesis Evangelion. I've only seen parts of it, though, so I can't exactly recommend it.

The first Afro Samurai film was pretty cool, too. And the action scenes are done fairly well.

I hope you get out of only just wanting to watch only action Anime, cause there's so much good shit out there. Like the Studio Gibli films and some of Satoshi Kon's work like Paranoia Agent, Perfect Blue, and Tokyo Godfathers. Just so much good short series (like 20 or so episodes) and a bunch of great films.

And, believe it or not, the Naruto and One Piece series are actually really good with the original Japanese dubs if you can stand to read subtitles. The Westernization of them turned them to shit.

And for another sort of action oriented really long series there's Lupin the 3rd if you want to keep up with the shenanigans of a deadbeat thief and his gang.

Sorry for all the suggestions, but hope some of those peak your interest.

I just watched FLCL tonight, and I have to say, it's just six episodes of insanity. It is, however, immensely enjoyable, and very well animated. I was grinning through most of it, and there were even a few "Fuck Yeah" moments. Highly recommended.

It's not so much that it wasn't funny, but it seemed deliberately generic and serious about it. "Yeah, this girl wears short shorts and we're showing you her ass for a full four seconds. And yes, she uses a massive rifle. You're supposed to like this stuff, shut up."
In comparison, Gurren Lagann has the exact same thing but seems to handle it in a manner I enjoy more. It's hard to describe, I don't know if anyone knows what I'm talking about.
>>438
I've read about FLCL being great so I'll watch it eventually. I watched the first episode of Gundam Wing and it seemed a little bit corny, but I don't think I gave it enough of a chance. I'm going to watch some of the original just to see, though.
>>440
I've seen all of the Studio Gibli movies and enjoyed them immensely. I just tend to enjoy more action-oriented stuff when I'm viewing it in short blocks of around a half hour, with long breaks in between since I rarely watch more than a few episodes a day, or a season in a week. It's also not just that I enjoy only constant explosions and gun/swordplay, it's that I tend to be wary of anime that doesn't fall under the 'action' umbrella because I just can't stand any touhou or K-on sort of stuff.
>> No. 453
I've been watching Neon Genesis Evangelion and have been enjoying it. Though, it is sort of confusing to me. I'd recommend it. It has a nice fresh take on Mecha anime. Currently on episode 21. There's only 26 of them and two movies or something. It's more of a character drama to me than big ass things fighting each other, but there's plenty of that too. Unfortunately, I couldn't find an english dubbed version so I'm not sure if one exists and I don't know how you are about reading subtitles.
>> No. 473
Neon genesis IMO is one the best amines ever made, and you guys have pretty much covered all of my other favorites. I do have one more addition though: Gun Grave. This one was a really good mob syndicate fighter about two street brothers who make it far in the mob and betray each other and one becomes good and tries to stop the other cause he's a bad ass pseudo superhuman with an awesome gun haha.
