I'm gonna go ahead and re-upload all the recommendation images because I love you all.

Unlike last time, however, I'm uploading my folder of them to Mediafire. This board has a file size limit of 1000KB, and since a lot of these images are upwards of 2MB it would mean that I would have to re-save them as low-quality .JPGs and I really don't want to do that (it makes the small text hard to read and it would take me quite a while).

The folder includes:
- 26 anime recommendation images
- 3 visual novel recommendation images
- A .TXT file with download links for visual novels
- An infographic about learning Japanese

Feel free to contribute any good lists or download links that I left out.

That is a nice collection, though I find many of them are almost identical in recommended content. I will go through them and merge the large ones which only have a difference of one or two, and leave the smaller ones or those with specific information/target audiences alone and re-post an updated .zip for those who want it.

Cheers.

Yeah, I noticed how similar some of them are as I combed through for duplicates before uploading. I didn't want the folder to seem empty or insubstantial though so I opted to keep most of them there.

It would be awesome if you could merge those images though.

OP here.

I came across this chart the other day and I'm pretty sure it isn't in the folder that I uploaded so I figured I'd post it here.

I've never even heard of most of these shows, so I don't know if all of them have even been fansubbed.

I first saw this chart about a year and a half ago, and I ended up watching a good 3/4 of them, so I figure I'll say some stuff about it just so you know what you're getting into. And yeah, some of these aren't subbed or they're difficult to track down.

Most of these aren't a full series. They're either short films, OVA's, or movies. By short, I mean short. Some of these aren't even ten minutes long.

A couple of these are Korean.

Less than half are any good, but that's just my taste here. If you value scenery, detailed animation, and really abstract imagery over things like plot or memorable characters, you'll probably like a lot of them.

I'd recommend starting out with Jin-Roh, Cencoroll, Eve no Jikan, Dead Leaves, Mind Game, and Memories. They're the ones I liked the most.

Those are all good. You should also check out Tatami Galaxy, Catman, Kemonozume (Beast Claw), Windy Tales and Cat Soup.

The problem with a lot of recommendation lists is that there's no quality checking at all.

You're either trusting one guy who's listing everything he's watched or some person who probably hasn't watched at least 2/3s of the stuff on it and adds anything he's heard of or been told to add to it. Same thing with polls; it's almost all just things that are popular with teenagers atm that no one will remember 10 years from now.

There's a similar problem with the "/v/ recommendation wiki". I was hoping it'd be useful but the list is like EVERY GOD DAMN GAME EVER MADE instead of a handful of games that are ACTUALLY GOOD. I ended just checking emuparadise / romhustler to see what had the most downloads, gamefaqs to see similar games, and wikipedia to check out developer lists and spent hours and hours trying stuff out myself.

Now the point is that anime takes much, MUCH longer to download and I'm less of an anime nerd than a video game nerd so I want to know what to watch.

The problem is that there are so many genres/styles/types of anime, that unless you know what you like, it's hard to find something that you can be interested in. For anime, I am of the opinion that it takes at least 5-6 episodes before you can judge if it is an anime for us, where with games, you can play around for 10-20 minutes and decide if you're having fun or not.

It's very possible to judge the quality of a show within the first episode, or by jumping around the first episode. The scenario or whatever might get more interesting later on, but the quality of the animation, the overall feel etc is easy to see.

Certain things are more interesting based on gender, age, mindset, personal experience (things you relate to and project on) and what not, but I think a reasonable adult can tell when something is "well made" or is "total garbage", personal taste notwithstanding.

I'm not talking about animation quality, or whether the show is total shit, I'm talking about shows where you might initially go "meh" during the first couple of episodes, and then go totally crazy over it after that.

I've watched lots of series that did that to me. Kaleido Star is probably the greatest example, at first I was like "wtf a circus anime? lololol", but now I regard it as one of the best things I have ever seen.

Ok...

I found this through Google.

It was made by some 60 year old Japanese guy. He's skewed towards liking things with magical girls and mechs but it was still more useful than any other list I've seen (not that I've looked for many).

lol

idk, according to gelbooru it's an original work. I'd tell you the artist if I remembered who it was. I tried searching some tags but I can't find it again.

He mostly draws girlies. It cracked me up because it was a stray bad ass picture.

From what I'm seeing here, I wouldn't be surprised if there was actually a little girl inside that mech.
