7803 No. 7803
I've been thinking recently that 99ch*n's /x/ might be low in the overall quality of posts compared to other chan's - however, that's not my judgment call to make, so I'm putting it to you guys instead.

How do you feel about this /x/'s current level of quality, quantity and rate of posting? If you're unsatisfied with it, what in particular don't you like? If you're satisfied, for what reasons do you like this /x/?

I think /x/ is a mostly useless, but still needed, board. When there is indeed movement in it, it is usually interesting, and not as prone to /b/withghostsing as most /x/'s I know.

There's not much discussion about actual events and legitimate paranormal things, but a seemingly infinite amount of "magick"
>> No. 7808
>>7805
This, I'd like there to be actual discussions beyond "Where can I learn to summon demons/use magicks?????" or people making up shit.
>> No. 7812
Can you give examples of the kinds of things you'd prefer to see, or what you'd class as "legitimate paranormal things" (debatable oxymoron notwithstanding) that would merit discussion here?

Excuse the wikipedia, but, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mel%27s_Hole

Urban legends, personal stories, personal paranormal investigations. Things that make you ask yourself "What the hell is going on here?" and spark a discussion as to what is going on and why it happened.

By contrast, "magick and wicca and summoning demons" is illegitimate, not because it has no way of being proven, but because it does and the people that claim to be able to do it provide no proof or evidence or desire to investigate further into it or even find out why it works, and how it works, even if it did work... Basically I think it's bullshit because it's practitioners are engaging in voluntary ignorance and mysticism when it comes to actual practice.

Duly noted. /x/philes, if you haven't already given your opinion here, it'd be really groovy if you could. I'd like as much of our userbase represented here as possible.

While I must say it has been more active in the past, its quality isn't horrible. However it does seem to be just a tad bit slow atm.
>> No. 7928
There's not enough activity on this board to warrant me regularly visiting it, the fact that a thread from September is still on the front page is evidence of that.
>> No. 7929
Oh, by the way, would anyone like me to dump a huge folder of old/abandoned, creepy/weird/interesting places? There are 992 images in total, so I'd rather not dump it if nobody is interested.
>> No. 7934
sounds good
>> No. 8739
I wish it was a bit more active, because at heart I really like it better than most other chan's /x/ boards. It's just organised better and there's not so much "OMG GUYS I THINK I SAW A GHOST" stuff.

The amount of Magick stuff is a bit annoying. It's not really what I, among many others, would come to /x/ for. What I REALLY enjoy is stuff like urban legends, interesting, thought-provoking stuff that makes you think or get freaked out. Like 7815 said, more personal stories and personal investigations would be awesome.

I love this /x/, and it could become a lot greater.
>> No. 8784
I don't really think the quality or quantity is up to par with the /x/ boards on other *chans unfortunately, though maybe it just doesn't cater specifically towards what I enjoy, who knows.

Like >>7805 said, there's barely any discussion of paranormal place/instances/stories, but hordes of threads about magick (especially from that crazy fuck who keeps trying to bring anime dolls to life).
>> No. 8817
I agree with the rest of the replies in this thread concerning the 'magick' stuff. The main problem with this is that the threads are almost always something like 'how do I summon a demon' or 'share you experiences with magick' or other such nonsense and this creates a situation where only other 'magicians' can really post in the thread. It's just a circlejerk of lunatics wallowing in their own self-delusion. No skeptics allowed. Whereas other topics like personal paranormal experiences or reality glitches and things like that can be discussed by anyone. And the worst thing about this is that it's not just confined to 99chan's /x/, it's a cancer that plagues all of the other /x/'s too.
>> No. 8818
I like the magick stuff. Just try to keep it in one thread IMO.
>> No. 8824
Alrighty, I'm glad we're getting lots of feedback here - cheers everyone for taking the time to help out. You're more than welcome to continue providing feedback here, too.

It seems as though the problem most folk are having is that the magick threads are gaining more attention or being posted more frequently than other fields of the paranormal, which is an understandable complaint. To that end, I'll be doing a "discussion drive" where I'll post up at least one new thread on Mondays (and, depending on activity, on Fridays as well) that's about something slightly more on the conventional/experiential side of the paranormal spectrum, and we'll see how that goes. You guys are encouraged to contribute your own threads and posts as always, and it would be very groovy if you could tell your friends about this place to get it jumping a bit more.
>> No. 8832
I just arrived to 99chan's /x/ board because others are mainly filled with trolls, magicks and... well... stuff that doesn't actually fit in the paranormal thread. This one seems nice... but has too much magicks!
>> No. 8853
420 and 99 are home(r.i.p. 4,7,78,7clams ;_;)
If our x could be a culmination of those /x/'s and /spooky's that would be dope.
>> No. 8858
The quality of the posts are much better than that of, erm the past, and 101(rip) which didn't even have an /x/. speed will come, if lurkers will contribute, which was 101's problem.
>> No. 8957
I haven't seen much but after a brief pilgrimage from 4chan I'm fimding this place much better. It just seems safer if the internet can feel such a way I don't know but it's more comfortable. I was shocked by the /b/ here... It was coherent.
>> No. 8986
i used to love /x/ and was a regular of parachan or something along the lines of. i hate to be a broken record, but all the magic/k threads really destroyed my interest in /x/. either you summon demons or no one likes you.

i'm a fan of cryptids.

Get rid of the 'magick' shit and /x/ will be worthwile again. I want to come to discuss things like monster sightings or creepypasta, not 'how does i summon succubus'.

As much as I hate Syazel, the main reason I come to this /x/ is that it's one of the few places I CAN discuss reality bending. If this became mainly creepypasta and "aliens did it" I might as well have stayed on one of the other /x/ boards.

Do you seriously believe you can bend reality like magic? Honest question.

I like to come here when I get banned from the other chans.
>> No. 9052
It's a funny thing, every /x/board I've been to on different chans (oh and I've surfed a few for a shortterm period) everybody spends their time bitching and moaning about the content posted instead of posting content they actually feel is worthwhile posting.
>> No. 9095
I've searched for good board about magick and it looks like there doesn't exist english board of this thematic. Only here exists some tiny amount of occultism, and it's interesting.
Probably you could create /m/, admin?
>> No. 9188
I think that one thing to consider is that /x/ boards tend to be pretty slow (or flooded with shite) for the most part, couple this with 99ch being a pretty slow site as opposed to most and we've got a clear solution as to why the quantity is somewhat lacking. As for quality, well, same with with all /x/s out there, people are always going to post the same "I wanna summon Succubus, how?" thread for the n-thousandth time regardless. There needs to be a way to attract or encourage discussion about more aspects of the paranormal, even if it's just creepy stories.

Yeah, to extend off what this user said, banning all magic threads or whatnot won't really do anything other than just reduce the post count even further. We just need a few individuals to make threads of interesting topics every once in a while to spark some good discussions, and things should be dandy. There's many, including myself, who visit the board regularly, but there's just nothing interesting to reply to.

That being said though >>8817 brings about a good point, it'll be nice to have the magick threads that do exist be open to more open ended discussion that everyone could join in on rather than 'how summon succubi' and the mentioned circle-jerking that follows. I think it would be cool to be able to theorize on how it works from a practical standpoint (be it just vivid self-imaginings, or straight up schizophrenia), or even just talk about the mythos of it. There's some potential to be had I think.
>> No. 9236
not gonna lie, im a fucking occultist, i came here because the magick threads actually where something other than "LOLOL DEMONS", and i like that. That being said i also reaaaaaaaaly enjoy paranormal stuff, creepypasta, myths, all the trad. X stuff, so maybe idk a stickyed magick thread to keep us magick retards happy while allowing the space for the cool stories and things that creep me out? they should be separate so one doesn't kill off the other, i enjoy both and don't want to see one become all of what is posted here

I have put /x/ in the spotlight in response to the demand for more quality posts so lets see how this goes! <3
