Lets say, first of all, the boards were categorized more logically - maybe something like:
Normal
- /b/, /fubot/, /raeg/, /regs/, /tttm/
Lifestyle
- /cf/, /docta/, /fitfa/, /money/
Learn
- /calc/, /nerd/, /phi/, /speak/, /x/
The Arts
- /art/, /fronk/, /mu/, /wri/
Convention Center
- /a/, /cat/, /cccp/, /gent/, /lego/, /reich/, /sfcsp/, /tvav/
Porn
- porn shit
Then, lets say these category listings (currently "Discussions n' stuff", "99chan Meta", and "Adult Entertainment") become links themselves to pages that're part "Latest Posts" for the boards that fall under a given category, and part "General Discussion" for stuff that falls under a given category but doesn't necessarily have a dedicated board.
Categories like "Normal" or "Porn" of my proposed list would have no discussion functionality, but would serve as a more comprehensive "Latest Posts" list, providing not just the literal most recent posts but also the OPs of the threads from which they originate.
I tried to tell this to a previous regime, but they were all "we need to figure out which boards should exist before we attempt to categorize them", missing the point that having a place for general category discussion provides a better platform from which to expand and contract the board lineup.
