So.
Google Glasses.
There are pros and cons about this idea, but what are your opinions. Would you get them?

Don't forget the ads

Saw how they would look and how they would function, Alot of cons verse pro

Im guessing it uses a very intresting low tech aproach using a micro projector those used in nokia phone with projection for media and work and it reflex off your cornia if not a lens? I do believe its still in development.

Here a link with a video of what it offers as a basic use.

http://www.megaleecher.net/The_Google_Glass

the cons are obvious, it will distract you or blind you with annoyance while you walk. Updates will be abothersome. Since it is google im guessing the only social network will be ofcourse googleplus. Adding FB, CHAN, Twiter will require a computer and more software.
A cool pro would be a costumizeable theme, imagine a theme you can create, if any of you still owns psp, vita? and already if not has hacked it the enabling of rooting a theme of choise with different sound and different icon, makeing them as transparent as you want even adjusting the size of an icon to make them as small or large as you want.

It is ofcourse a gadget toy if you do think about it. Google wants to make it as useful as an android phone. Even those phones are much of a toy as they are practical now adays.

Google have consequently taken a stance against state intervention on the web. They did agree to Chinas censorship regulations but they have also done their best to undermine it. If anything Google are the good guys that make cool stuff that makes your ordinary life easier.

Facebook on the other hand...

This is one of those 'Won't know till it's here' techs.

From what I can tell it'll be based off a few Video game huds. Layout and function would be changed for the specific tasks you would need. Like "Walking map" showing you real time where you are and how to get to a shop. While walking you can google the current status of your location as well as any comments.

While heading to 'Bob's Sushi' you read "Went to Bobs Sushi, Now I'm in the hospital." You may decide to head to 'Lisa's Crab Shack' instead.

New to a location well Maps will most probably help you with that.

For "Farm Applications" being able to look into your field and see the performance of all your pumps/gear and locations of your tractors in real time could be useful.

Being able to look out on the field and see where your cattle are thanks to GPS tags could be a possibility. Knowing the status of your supplies in various locations might be useful. Inlaying an electric fence with intrusion detection and damage monitoring systems.

Much of the same tech could be added to military use on the field. replace "Cattle" with "Friendlies" and you would be golden. At this moment the Military already uses similar programs. all this would do is move the gear from your hands to your eyes.

See there are all kinds of things you could use them for but we don't know yet because they aren't here.

GOOGLE glasses? HAHA FUCK NO.
That would be like buying a "Skynet Laptop".
Google already has so much power that it's ridiculous.
No company should have that much personal information about ANYONE. No company can compare to Google's total domination. I mean come on.
The average Joe browses his internet through Google.
He checks his e-mail through Google.
He browses his smartphone through Google.
For searching the web? (oh come on, you guessed it)
And soon to be:
With the release of Chromebook you'd be naïve to say that Google won't dive into the computer market. Google will probably compete at the top alongside Acer, HP, Asus and the likes in a couple of years.
And now Google Glass.. planning to dominate the HUD-market too, right from the start (which they undoubtedly will. What's even worse is they're taking 2 flies in one - Glass will need you to have a G+ account, that means that the big G will soon topple the SOCIAL MEDIA market also, we can already smell the demise of Facebook imo.

So what's the solution?
Well it's a good thing that COMPETITION still exists! Because we can't forget that they haven't become Skynet JUST YET, we still have a chance to keep the shit from happening. 'till today I've read about 4 different companies that are underway with their own, unique HUD's.

I don't know about you, my "CYBERPUNK"-brethren - but if you consciously walk in to the permanent theft of personal information that is Google, you might need to reconsider your fiction of choice.

Fuck Google Search - There's Duck Duck Go
Fuck Google+ - ...and any social media, you self-centered anals. Pidgin with Skype and IRC is all I need.
Fuck Gmail - There's FastMail (Opera software, better rating than Gmail, though for a small fee/year - fkn worth it)
Fuck Chrome - There's MOTHERFUCKING FIREFOX
Fuck Android - There will SOON be Sailfish (thankfully)
Fuck ChromeOS - There's GNU/LINUX.
And finally: Fuck Google Glasses - there's VUZIX (my current fav), Tele-Pathy, Oculon’s Smart Glasses, Apple Glasses(...) and Microsoft and Samsung will likely release Google Glass competitors too.

Don't be a sheep.

Oh, I guess I wasn't too clear on that part.
>I was NOT suggesting that you would pick Apple>Google, I was just naming other companies that are picking up the competition against the Big G.
I fucking hate Apple lol.
Linux and FREE Software > all.

They will never be Skynet. The name's taken. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skynet_(satellite)

I will wait for the rivals to come up with something better like a glasses-mounted video camera that can be used for real time video which then you can upload to sites like Livestream or something like that.

I have so many qualms with carrying a cellphone around that the very last thing I want to do is wear it on my face and let it see everything I do all day. I don't care how useful it is.

One day though maybe the technology will be a little more mature and I can build one myself that sends all of that delicious spy data about me to my personal servers for analysis and storage by my own AI algorithms. Then I never have to worry about being too drunk or high to remember something again.
