  >Even if it's south american ghetto fuckmusic that they like, you leave them alone.
Finally!

After a few years of deep affection for dub - especially the work of Scientist, King Tubby, and Lee Perry - I've only now branched out to its cousins and descendents, ragga, dancehall, funk carioca, and, very recently, the much-reviled-by-imageboard-music-elitists reggaeton. If anyone here knows any influential or classic early artists or songs in any of these genres, I would really appreciate it. Especially stuff that shows the early roots and evolution of these genres as they developed out of other music of the southern Americas and Caribbean.

How about "much-reviled-by-south-americans-who-have-to-stand-that-noise-blasting-from-cars-driven-by-idiotic-twenty-somethings-at-3-in-the-morning-during-workda
ys?

Not to say you're not allowed to like it. Anyway, have some Yellowman.

Ha ha, point taken. Being Canadian, that experience is one completely outside my sphere of awareness.

A Canadian liking Reguetón is quite likely the most heartbreaking thing I've heard all week. Anyway, it has its origins on dancehall and even though we can (mainly) thank puerto rico for its existence, you should probably listen to Sean Paul, who acted as a sort of bridge between good ol' dancehall/raggamuffin and reguetón.

Personally I despise him.

I too am a Canadian who loves regueton. Maybe it's a Canadian thing.

Hey man, we need something to keep us warm in these long, dark winters.

I've heard Sean Paul (who hasn't? He was and is a pretty massive crossover success) and enjoy him. Thanks for at least making an effort to contribute by suggesting something instead of just insulting me :3

I hope not, because I was planning on sneaking into Canada to escape south america. Or maybe just ask nicely to be taken in.

OP here, just wanted to pop into this thread to thank >>1590 again because I have been rocking the Yellowman for weeks. So good.
