This is only speaking from logic, not from experience in the industry, but I imagine that's a big issue with porn, especially these days. You're entering a business contract, so there is an exchange of information. Automatically you are vulnerable. If they want the ability to prove you're 18, then there's more vulnerability (access to who you are.) "Decency" would imply that they would keep this confidential, but I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if this often becomes a situation where involvement perpetuates more involvement. "Want to keep working? You should connect via facebook," etc. And in a darker light, "Want to stop working? Well we have all this stuff about you..."
But at the same time, porn is so commonplace I wouldn't be surprised if there was an "independent contractor" situation available in many cases, ie clips4sale springs to mind though I only have a passing familiarity.
Interestingly enough, I think (and again, only logically, haven't had personal dealings) the fetish market might be strangely safer in that regards than "general porn." There's more money at stake since it's a niche audience, and there's more accountability for the producers (again, because of the niche audience and easy word-of-mouth). ie "insex" from the very little I've perused, seems to have a very professional view of their performers. However, with the miracles of modern technology, there could be guns pressed to heads between every shot and I wouldn't know.
