416 No. 416
I've been in the hospital for a while and during that I lost about 20 pounds. I'm 19 years old and that was enough for me to look visibly different. I went from around 135lb to 118lb. For the last few weeks I've been trying to bulk up in college but now since it's out I lost a free gym and my meal ticket.

Now I'm at home and have little money to spend on things like loads of food, supplements or equipment. I don't want to be buff or anything. I just don't want to look like a sickly, lanky twig. So is there a relatively quick and cheap way for me to gain weight?

Wouldn't you rather develop musculature?

yeah dude, ramen noodles.
But you gotta put on muscle, get eggs and I think husked sunflower seeds and the like are fairly cheap, and get a low level adjustable dumbell set. Mine is up to 40# if I put all the weight on one, and that's about as much as I curl. Also, one of those pull-up bars is good too, but you could use a tree branch or something. Also food-wise, chicken is a cheaper meat than beef/pork, ground is cheaper than steaks/cuts, learn to cook and have protein snacks

Eggs are a cheap, convenient source of protein and fat. Buy a dozen and hardboil six at a time, eat them over 3 days. Buying rice and black/white/kidney beans in bulk is also a very cheap way to get some protein in your diet. It's a versatile dish, as there are many ways your could add flavour (soy sauce, curry, adding a half-cup of chicken or beef, adding stir-fried veggies, adding nuts. Teriyaki is pretty sugary but you could add some of that every so often if you like it). The bulk aisle is your friend in other ways as well: get nuts, seeds, etc. Keep your eye out for things that are on sale in the bulk aisle and the meat aisle and clip coupons if you want.

Eat a protein rich breakfast every day, get 8 hours of sleep, don't stay up late, do push-ups, crunches, squats, lunges, and any other basic bodyweight exercises you can think of every other day. As the above poster said, go find a tree and do pull-ups. For added weight during these exercises, look for second hand freeweights or fill a backpack with books, cinch it up close to your back, and do your push-ups, squats, etc.
