There were severe floods in Thailand where most HDD's are produced causing an upsurge in the price to build them.
Seagate was not heavily affected by them and yet they still kept their high price and Western Digital suffered the worst of the two had to raise their prices to stay afloat and pay off damages.
Prices should drop slowly within the coming months hopefully.

Guess I'll have to begrudgingly delete some stuff in the mean time though.

You could always compress some stuff and store it on Dropbox or various forms of physical media in your home.

Just use some of these. Everybody has some old floppies laying around somewhere.
