I always recommend Girls und Panzer. Cute show with a strange premise that is played 100% straight, and the creators don't give two shits about what people think about it, they do what they want, which in this case means less fanservice and more tanks.

If you're looking for similar anime where the creators do what they want without caring, there's also Queen's Blade I guess. Epic hyper-sexual fantasy battle tournaments and such.

I just finished watching Space Runaway Ideon. I watched most of the series a couple years ago and finally came back and watched the compilation movie, A Contact, to get reacquainted and then the finale movie, Be Invoked.

It was created by the dude who did Mobile Suit Gundam. Spiritual precursor to NGE in the combination of giant robot action + silly anime tropes + religious overtones + bleak and uncompromising philosophy. Great if you like that late-70s-early-80s aesthetic.

Passes the Bechdel test, lots of silly anime hairdos, the series gets kind of tedious (kind of like Mobile Suit Gundam) but the overall story arc and the movies are quite compelling. Be Invoked especially.

Ideon guy here. I threw in the Bechdel test reference not because I feel it is of any importance in any concrete sense but just because I felt like it was a fun thing to add because it occurred to me just as I was typing up that post and it's nice when things pass the Bechdel test. It was kind of tongue in cheek, kind of just a nice little tidbit to pile up on top of the many other ballza things about this series.

That depends on how pedantic you want to be. The gems are technically genderless since they're sentient alien rocks and don't have reproductive organs. If you're going for maximum pedantry, some episodes won't pass, but the show as a whole still does. On the other hand, the protagonist gems have female-sounding names, dress and have character designs like women, are played by female voice actors using female voices, and are referred to using female pronouns. They're treated like women in every sense, so it follows that they should be considered women for the Bechdel test. In that case, the show consistently passes the Bechdel test in every single episode, continuously throughout the episode.
