Chances are the children in question were not paid, but a pimp or brothel was paid. Plus there's no way the child is choosing to provide that service. Yeah it's poorly written. The author flirts with the hypocrisy between John's insistence on never having abused any children and his history of engaging in sexual activity with underage prostitutes, but then the writing of the article itself often disregards that information.
