I dunno, he has a cute Fred Savage quality in that pic and he grew up to be decently handsome; I get what you mean though, he has a bit of a weasely quality that doesn't make him much of a credible action hero, though one could argue that he's never been an action hero. The only action hero role I can think of, which I'm sure you're thinking of as well, is Transformers. I've only seen the first one, but his character was kind of a weasely, whiny guy, and his role as "action hero" was kind of passive, like he's not really cut out for the circumstances he finds himself in. In which case, Shia was perfectly suited.

Even in Fury he plays sort of a whiny cunt. I don't think even Michael Bay would ask us to think of him as an action hero, he's there for the girlies to cream their panties over. He's not really out there being a grizzled Stallone or Bruce Willis type.
