Unless you specialise in something that's been a hobby of yours for the last 15 years, you don't; your house fills up with crap you can't get rid off because you got duped into buying it.

I did some cleaning work with my Mum a few summers ago, sometimes people would want help moving and we used to haul off all of their crap. Few of these people had just made stupid purchase after stupid purchase trying to flip, one women had 7 VCRs and a box of these knockoff PSPs (fig. 1) that she bought because she didn't understand the video game market what so ever.

That said a friend's Dad bought and sold rare vinyls, his house was still packed wall to wall with the things but he made a fair bit of money on it because he knew the worth of what he was buying and selling.

I kept one of the PSP players because it has a GBA emulator built in and is actually kinda cool.

Sell things that you already have.

Not ebay necessarily, but as recently as a few months ago, I knew someone who would order nice (although not outrageously nice) pool cues from a quality woodworking shop here in-state that he was aware of, that specialized in them.

He then tracked down vendors of such things in China using the internet (correctly betting that China was going through a Western ballzas luxury binge) and sold them as high end shit for like a 350% markup, not totally untruthfully representing himself as a rep for down-homey super high quality local woodworkers in his area.

Basically, rich Chinese people are gullible as fuck and crave status symbols. Figure out a way to exploit that. Fuck ebay.

I knew a girl who used to buy wholesale jeans, sew sequins on and sell them at 800% of the original price.

That's very enterprising for a young black woman.

A friend of mine used to sell car manual CD and DVDs. He would just copy discs and put labels on them. He made enough to buy a porsche.

Order bulk spices, potpourri, etc and sell them with a 40% markup on ebay by gram. A friend of mine makes 30K a year doing it, he could make more, he only works 20 hours a week and that is mostly packaging and shipping shit.

Do you know how he sources the herbs? Like does he buy them online, or does he actually go and buy the herbs fresh from farmers and such?

Hey if you're still around- what kind of spices and herbs? I've been wanting to do this for a while but I'm not sure which herbs people actually want. There are so many choices, it's hard to decide.

What seems to help the most--more than even competitive pricing--is sticking with what you know and building up a ballza reputation.

For instance, while I know that I can probably get those same brands and vintages of wind instruments cheaper from other eBay users, I know that if I look at http://www.ebay.com/usr/pappajohn52 then everything there has a reputation of being freshly blinged out and able to work right out the box. That's why if someone on here wanted a recommendation for, say, a nice jazz trombone I could point that dude out.

That's actually a pretty insightful commentary on most boy bands.

If I ever have to manufacture the latest teenage sensation I might have to steal that name, The Jacket Boys.
