Is there any reason for a modern human to keep half of the stuff we're made of? No. But we have no control in it. We don't decide. And society as we know it has a habit of trampling the course of evolution and natural selection, so it's going to take much, much longer for anything to change at a substantial level.
I suppose advancements in technology could actually make that time shorter, if it weren't for our squirmish, bureaucratic moral, which is a direct consequence of developing a society anyway.
That's an extremely weird question.
