Oh, yeah. Has anybody read the light novel series. Allegedly, it is all based on the original manuscripts. There's a few a extra scenes, so it kind of feels like a directors cut. For better or worse, the work as a whole is much easier to understand. Obviously much of the humor is either lost or has to be recogfigured entirely to work in the medium.

I honestly thought FLCL was quite over-rated.

The soundtrack was one of the best in anime's history, and it had some fun characters and pretty cool animation, but it was all style and little substance, which left me feeling unsatisfied (the short length only added to this). The ending didn't feel very conclusive to me either.

Don't take that the wrong way though, I enjoyed it... I just don't think it's as great as everyone says it is.

I used to think Furi Kuri was the best anime ever too, but that was when I had seen maybe four complete series.

As has been stated, it's got a great soundtrack and had tremendous visuals for its time that still hold up rather well. The humor was random and sporadic but was delivered pretty nicely. Many of the puns and jokes couldn't be translated to English, though, so a bits had to be rewritten. I will give it the benefit of the doubt of having one of the greatest English dubs in the medium.

I think FLCL is overrated.

I gotta say the animation, at times, is just so fucking crazy good. It's the perfect happy medium between anatomical correctness, kinetic energy/physics and cartoon wackiness. Wish there was more shows with that kind of animation style, I love it.
