Welp, that sucked. The only redeeming thing about the whole series was Mei.
It started off pretty bad, then towards the middle it seemed like it was picking up a bit and began to looking promising, but then it just faceplanted on the last two episodes. The conclusion/resolution/whatever felt very unsatisfying too, it was almost like they pulled it out their ass at the last second.
The premise was enough for a fairly decent story, if done properly, but it seems like nobody working on this show knew what they were doing or how to build atmosphere and set tone. Rather than being a horror anime as intended, it ended up almost being a comedy (I can't count the number of "gore" scenes where I burst into laughter and/or facepalmed).
Overall, the biggest problem with this anime was the tone. They needed to seriously strip down the gore, or maybe even cut it out altogether, because the amount in the show was just silly and ruined the atmosphere. They also needed to work on making the characters expressions less goofy, it was like in every other scene there would be close-ups of every character with a grimaced look on their face and it just made me want to laugh because of how over-the-top it felt.
The other big problem was how unmemorable and generic all the characters were; barely any of them had any personality to speak of, so when they died it was like "wait, who was that again?". I found that by the end, only one character I was remotely interested in had died (R.I.P. Twin-Tails ;_;).
I wouldn't recommend watching this if you're interested in it, I don't really know of any other horror-anime, but there have to be better ones than this out there.
