So, are you guys looking forward to any of the up-coming anime for Winter 2011/12?

Daily Lives might be something I could watch vicariously, but I do that with almost all anime.

Natsume 4, Daily Lives, Amagami SS+, Kill Me Baby, Papa no Iu Koto o Kikinasai!, Nisemonogatari.
This season seems rather boring and has even more moe shit than the other seasons.

So, am I the only one reminded of Chihiro Shindou from Ef: A Tale Of Memories when looking at the poster/thumbnail image of Another?

I mean, they even have their patch on the same eye.

Pretty much my reaction.

I'm currently marathoning Amagami SS and Bakemonogatari so I can watch the second seasons as they air.

Haven't started on Bakemonogatari yet, but I'm 2 episodes in to Amagami SS so far and I'm enjoying it quite a bit so I think I'll be sticking with it.

The only new series that interests me is Another, but I have my doubts about it. I'll probably watch the first few episodes at least anyway.

I am going through Amagami SS right now as well. Up to the childhood friend arc, shit is really well done. Some forced drama, if you can call it that, is thrown in, plus some cliches, but otherwise, a really good series.

I'm enjoying it so far, but I don't like the protagonist. It's fair to say he's quite the opposite of a 'ladies man', yet he gets every girl in the series (granted, not all at once) with very little effort on his part (actually, some of the things he does/says would be almost guaranteed to drive girls away IRL). It makes the romances seem much less believable to me.

Maybe I'm just being overly cynical... it's not a big enough deterrent for me to drop it though, I am, as I said before, rather enjoying it so far.

I can see what you are saying. He really does say the most inappropriate and awkward stuff at times. That and the whole "kissing in weird body places" thing, (I mean, back of the knee, really??). But, then again, I guess I do not expect too much realism out of romance anime. It is sort of meant as a way to self-insert and play pretend that awkwardness gets a person the girl in the end, at least to me.

I like to play pretend that I'm not an awkward loser with no social skills, but this anime doesn't let me ;_;

At least it lets you play pretend that you can get the girl despite being a loser with poor social skills. Which, I guess, is not much consolation. Damn. Why am I watching this show again??

It's enjoyable so long as you don't try to take it too seriously. School Days had a similar protagonist (at least at the beginning before he started fucking everyone), but for some reason it didn't bother me in that anime.

All I can really say about School Days is that long overused and abused "Nice Boat!" statement. Honestly, the MC of that show was such a douchebag, that I could not really enjoy the show without facepalming ever other scene. And you are right, romance anime is not really meant to be taken seriously. I was just kidding about the whole "Why am I watching this show" thing.

>"Nice Boat!"

Eh? I don't remember that, but it's been over a year since I watched School Days so maybe that's why.

But yeah, even though the protagonist was a gigantic douchebag, I really enjoyed School Days for some reason. I can't even remember what I liked so much about it.

Speaking of School Days, the VN translation project that started almost 4 years ago should finally be finished soon. It's available for pre-order I think.

Whoa! You are right! It is going to be released Spring 2012, if I am not mistaken. Well, something to look forward to this year then, after Katawa Shoujo comes out in a few days. Which I am completely looking forward to playing, if the developers are not playing a big joke again.

I don't know why people dislike MAL so much. I mean, as a resource for finding out things like which fansub groups are working on a certain anime, when a something aired, and if there are any sequels, OVAs or movie adaptions of a particular anime, it's very useful.

I'm not sure how the community is there though, but I'm guessing that's the reason people dislike the site so much.

I'm watching:
- Amagami SS+ Plus
- Another
- Mouretsu Pirates
- Nisemonogatari (my favourite of the season)

I tried watching High School DxD, and the first line after the opening was "Man, I wanna squeeze some tits", after which I immediately dropped it.

I also watched the first episode of Kill Me Baby... it was extremely mediocre and not even funny most of the time. I'm going to watch the second episode when it airs, and if I don't enjoy that then I'm dropping it.

Mouretsu Pirates kinda surprised me honestly, I was expecting moeshit but it was actually entertaining/interesting enough to keep me watching. It isn't great by any means, but it's good enough to warrant sticking with it for now I think.

Another seems like it could be an interesting one, depending on how they play the story out. It's too early to say whether it's going to be good or not based on the first episode, but I think it definitely has potential.

Amagami SS+ Plus is just more of the same from Amagami SS, so if you liked that then you'll like this. It's enjoyable enough for me to keep watching it, but I don't think it's something that I'd miss if I were to stop watching it.

Nisemonogatari is my favourite for this season, I really enjoyed Bakemonogatari and, as always, SHAFT's visuals are fantastic. The only thing I'm disappointed by is that CR's subs are the only ones available, at least until the blu-ray release which UTW are going to sub.

Am I missing anything else that's worth watching this season?

So, Kill Me Baby's second episode was actually not too bad, I think I'm gonna stick it out to the end. I suppose this will be my guilty pleasure of the season.

Oh, I also tried watching Daily Lives of High School Boys, and despite my incredibly low expectations, it actually turned out to be a very enjoyable comedy. I'd recommend watching the first episode if you haven't already.

Anyhow, what's everyone else watching?

Another, Rinne no Lagrange, Highschool DxD (I needed my fix of unrealistically large bouncing tits, sue me), Symphogear (Considering dropping, but will give it a few more episodes.) Might start Daily Lives of HS Boys, since I am hearing good things about it. Wanted to start Kill Me Baby, but then changed my mind, due to the hunch that I just will not enjoy it. This hunch had not led me astray so far, so I am following it.

I'm enjoying this season. I don't think I'll stick with Symphogear, it is just too weird in terms of animation to me, songs are mediocre and whole show was just meh.

Kill Me Baby is fine no-brainer with one of the best ED I ever heard and at the same time one of the worst OP I've seen. Well, duh. After 2 episodes of this I think I'll watch it when I'll have the time to have 20 minutes for relax listening to ninja jokes.

I can't say much about Highschool DxD after one episode, so far it's ok, surely there are high production values and plot with aliens can be a good thing, but I somehow don't like the design of main character, IMHO graphics was better in Ano Hana. Still, this show is very promising.

Moretsu Pirates - came for pantsu, after 2 episodes I don't see any, only ADVENTURE!, action and nice plot execution. Surprisingly, show really tries, so it's very nice for s-f fans to see not derpy concepts nor any plot holes. Also, dat training scene. CG on the other hand isn't so good, but I think it will change if the action will go to space. Definitely I will stick to this one.

Rine no Lagrange - again, mecha (which I don't like personally), but with some amazing animation (still, first episode is usually better than the other, we'll have to be more into season to judge) and very like-able main heroine. If next episodes will be as good as first, I will stick to it.

Kyousogiga is good, but unfortunately there aren't any high-resolution rips to appreciate fully work of the animators. If you don't mind watching it in small window, you can give it a try solely for dreamy cityscape, bright palette of colours and crazy action.

I haven't seen Recorder, heard it's worth a try.

Another is promising, I haven't seen that kind of art in a while and having that kind of show is a bit refreshing. Still, it will probably be clichee over clichee, but thing is very atmospheric. Oh, and I liked backgrounds. OP is horrible though.

I heard Nisemonogatari has much more fanservice now and less witty talking than Bakemonogatari, but I can't judge it, I'm waiting for BD and I advice you to do so.

Friendly reminder - there's Gyo ahead of us and K-ON! movie.

Another really looks like typical Japanese horror, more annoying than scary. All those random broken doll shots, all those "disturbing" scratchy noises, random thunder during the talk on the roof, MC associated with death (I wonder where I've seen that before, VICTORICAAAAAAAAA.) The OP is the scariest part of the show, and that is only because it is done by ALI PROJECT, who have not done anything original since Rozen Maiden OP, and have reused it since, in every song they have ever done.

DXD is tits the Anime. Very well drawn tits at that.

Symphogear might as well be dropped for me right now, the show has no shred of originality, the songs suck, the characters are annoying ("This is my dead friend 's suit, lets fight!"), and the show just fails on many levels.

Rinne No Lagrange- Cool, will keep watching. Mecha is mecha, but you are right, animation is pretty good, and the concept is pretty interesting.

Thermae Romae- Good manga adaptation. The humor is pretty Japan specific, but it is pretty understandable for Westerners as well. It is worth checking out.

I'll pick up Space Pirates, I think, to replace Symphogear. People really seem to like it, though I had some misgivings at first, I mean, the show about female pirates in space just screams "fanservice." But from what I generally hear, the plot is actually good, and the show tries.

I'm sorry, I mistaken Highschool DxD with Ano Natsu no Matteru. I don't know how it happened. DxD is certainly Tits:the Anime, I don't like such productions and personally first episode annoyed me, but uncensored nipples everywhere in TV airing is certainly a Holy Grail to some.

I agree with you on the matter of Another just to disagree on its quality. Future will tell who is right.

I watched the first episode of both mouretsu space pirates and rinne no lagrange,
they looked like they would just kind of descend into a yurifest or actually be cool shows, could someone tell me how they are based off the 2nd eps and possibly the 3rd if it's out by the time there's a reply

I think Mouretsu Pirates, despite the premise, is doing its best to play it straight. I mean, it's a show about moe pirates in mini-skirts, and yet there hasn't been any fan service what-so-ever so far. That zero-gravity part in episode 2 would've been the perfect opportunity for them to throw in pantsu shots everywhere, but they didn't do it. I kind of respect the show for that, but the story isn't too thrilling so far.

Rinne no Lagrange seems to do a fair bit of pandering in terms of fan service though, so it wouldn't be too far fetched for them to progress the plot in that direction, but I don't think they will.
>> No. 197
Director of both (Rinne and Moretsu) said that they are changing it to not include any romance. It may have yuri undertones, but I don't think we'll see blatant fanservice in these two shows - which is cool in my book.

Also second episode of Another confirms that show will probably keep being slow, atmospheric unraveling mysteries.

I'm a little worried about Another ending up being really cliché and silly... the random shots of 'creepy' dolls aren't doing anything to ease my concerns either.

The broken doll shots had turned me away the show as well. It just seems so generic as of now. Just like typical Japanese horror with "atmosphere." Guess it just is not my style of a show. And ALI PROJECT, that ALI PROJECT song is just completely unfitting, and derivative, as is expected from ALI PROJECT. Once you have heard Rozen Maiden OP, you have heard them all.

I agree about their choice of song for the OP, what the fuck were they thinking?

I think the best OP of the season is Rinne no Lagrange's, it looks like a lot of work went into it. Kill Me Baby's and Another's are probably the absolute worst of the season though.

All those space backgrounds in Rinne OP are sexy as fuck, and the song actually fits the show pretty well. The ED is not so shabby either. Maybe, a little bit under-drawn, but once again, it really does fit the show.

Kill Me Baby's OP had made me not watch the show at all. Some people found it good, as far as I can tell, but I just found it annoying and weird, and it sort of (wrongly perhaps?) set the wrong impression of the show for me.
>> No. 205

I don't want to interfere, but IMHO it's just stupid to judge shows worth by OP (see: Magipoka, Narutaru or fuckton other examples) Show is a collection of silly gags (I guess it's a bit in Lucky Star or Nichijou format), but it's enjoyable. Also ED is hands down the best in this season, so...maybe you shouldn't be so quick to ditch it and give it a try?
>> No. 206
>>205
Oh, no, I am not criticizing the show itself. It is actually pretty relaxing and surprisingly decent. It is just that its OP had really made me question my want to watch it. I guess I am just nitpicking, but still, I am surprised so many people find the Kill Me Baby OP good!

"Another" episode 3 spoilers...

Earlier in this thread, I mentioned my concerns about this anime ending up coming across as silly rather than creepy, and this episode really did a lot to reaffirm that.

First off, the eye colour thing - why, oh why, did they make her other eye green? Now she has exactly the same eyes as Suiseiseki from Rozen Maiden... what were they thinking?

Secondly, that fucking girl getting impaled on an umbrella... what the fuck? Have you ever seen an umbrella being sold anywhere with an end as sharp as that in your life? Of course you haven't, because nobody makes them like that since they're an obvious fucking safety hazard. Even so, assuming she did by some chance find an umbrella like that in a shop somewhere, why on Earth would she buy it? I mean, maybe a teenage boy would think it was a cool thing to have, but a girl (a seemingly awkward, geeky one at that)? You have got to be kidding me. Hell, where I live something like that is fucking illegal, and yet they expect me to believe that's the kind of thing a school girl would casually carry around and be allowed to bring to school? Sorry, not happening.

If they were going to have her die in that scene, couldn't they have just made her break her neck when she fell down the stairs?

Ughhhhh, I hope I'm just being cynical, but I have a feeling that this is just a taste of the silliness to come...

>> No. 220

Completely agree with you on the eyes. Those were ridiculous, I do not understand why they had to bring Souiseseki into the show. That show is more silly than scary. Verdict: Dropped.
