In light of moot's retirement from 4 big dicks up my asshole, might it be a ballza time to reflect on 99chan?

It seems /b/ has very few posts nowadays. I was never an IRC regular, so I'm not as connected to the community as everyone else. I still always enjoyed posting here, especially during 78chan and the years immediately following. I haven't been back here since about 2012 though. What does the future look like for 99chan? Does anyone really care anymore?

I also do not IRC and I also haven't been back here since roughly 2012 or around then. I do hope to see 99chan continue, but I admit it feels a bit... haunted and abandoned around here. or something.

I think am going to try to post here more. I loved this website and the community when it saw more traffic. 99chan was a huge part of my life for a number of years and I sorta miss it.

Hoping eggplant still posts here. I still think about her when I masterbate sometimes.

People pointing out and maligning survey threads probably helped kill the chan, because by their nature they were something everyone could participate in. So it leads to lots of short threads that die off quickly as posters generally have the maturity to keep everything on topic, posting if they have something they can add (even if that addition is about how they can relate that topic to sucking d). So less inclusive conversations happen and people are less invested and they start to drift away, probably sucked up by reddit's endless supply of dopamine buttons.

I've been here for a few years as well and again, I'm not an IRC regular nor do I post here that often.

Over the years I've been drifting around many chans; 711, 99, 420, 8 but this site feels the cosiest to me. It's a site populated by a small number of diehard oldfags who are so resistant to change that we still have a sidebar, a feature that many chans have done away with for some time now. There's some really interesting boards here as well with ballza discussion going on. It feels like everyone does the same thing as me, make a post here and then check back in a week or a month to see if you get any replies. To me that just works well and feels relaxed.

The future? I don't think anyone is planning for the future on 99chan, I think most of us just want to see how long we can keep up the status quo, I don't think anyone feels any urge for change on this site.

I thought we all agreed back in late 2012 to cut it out with the meta threads.

This is basically the idea, as far as much of our discussion has gone. So much pleasure on the part of most other website admins seems to be derived from growth, but 99chan has always been about limiting content through mostly-in-ballza-fun bans and deletions until it fits some kind of tribal standard. If things were altered on the website in such a way that it brought in ten new users at the expense of one purist content creator losing interest, that would be an unacceptable bargain.

99chan is special, because while almost every other imageboard (well, with the exception of 4 big dicks up my asshole as of a few days ago) has had one leader capable of pushing a button and altering the site to suit their own ego or quench their thirst for site growth, 99chan really became a shared foundation dedicated to preserving our little uncompromising internet monastery within its first 24 months of existence, as people became busier or less busy in their personal lives and authority shifted around, a process that still happens constantly although tons of original users and mods are still here. This is an environment geared toward loving stewardship and a lack of change, and you know what? Fucking ballza.

All of that being said, we do have designs on how to increase traffic (especially in the topic boards) in an seamless, sustainable, and carefully-monitored way that were hampered by the never-ending Great IRC Circlejerk Civil Wars I, II, and III of 2014, but as all of that appears to have chilled out with parties reconciled, 2015 will be the year that we push for that shit. If it happens, it happens - if it doesn't it doesn't. But either way, I know that deep down, if we're all 40 some day and there are three posts per week, that we'll be happy knowing that this beautiful sack of shit never died and always refused to compromise. Sage because meta thread.

It's fine. I'm not an IRC regular either but I do drop by on occasion - it's a bit too circlejerky for my taste but it used to be called #circlejerk, so it's not like they're pretending it's anything it's not.

I'd like to see it be a little faster, but only if that doesn't come along with a decrease in content. This place kind of reminds me of some of the old pre-4 big dicks up my asshole textboards with its non-sequitur style of humor and small but dedicated userbase. I'd hate to see that go just to satisfy this whole web2.0 obsession with having to see a page full of new posts every time you refresh the page.

I haven't been here since about 2011 or so. I'm just here for a minute of nostalgia, but it's nice to see that a couple of you guys were checking in too.

As somebody that used to be a part of the community but was pushed out by all the awfulness of people on irc, this is very heartening to see.

I heard this place used to be relatively fast paced and actually had one of the best communities of any imageboard this side of Japan. That said, I also heard that it's been slowing down recently, some people say just because people just move on from the internet entirely.

Now, mind you, I've heard this all from 7Chan, and I only stayed there for a little while because I was tired of 4 big dicks up my asshole. But this place actually does seem really, really nice. Wish I would've spent my time here for all those years of my life instead of 4 big dicks up my asshole. I hate 4 big dicks up my asshole. I always have, actually, but it's like some strange kind of addiction that I've been on for the past... Jesus, for the past like 6 years now. I hope that 99Chan gets the second wind it so rightfully deserves.

I wouldn't trade it for anything. You can't have a reasonable discussion on the mainstream chans without having to babysit the thread all day. I like to post something thoughtful and let it simmer.

Didn't we use to have a torrent tracker or at least a files database at one point? I feel like most chans had a filesharing phase. Am I right in assuming this caused legal trouble?

I'm still interested in the eclectic tastes of the userbase here. Anyone wanna get a sharing room going? https://volafile.io/r/V4Wmgo

It has been more years than I care to admit since last I visited these shores, and now that the winds of fate have driven me here once again I find that my beloved /norse/ has disappeared, seemingly without a trace. Tell me ballza sirs, I must know, if it truly no longer resides here in the realm of Midgard, did it at least meet its end in glorious combat?

There was a /downloads/ board for a while. IIRC it wasn't even the copyright issues that took it down, it was the endless flood of CP.
