So, Gatsby is out, and I'd like to hear your opinions.
Personally, I hated most of the first half, especially the ridiculous usage of dubstep and pop music during the party scenes. It sort of got its shit together before the end, though, and the characterization was believable and mostly faithful, in spite of the self-analysis (Carroway's thoughts on the green light = the past) toward the end.
One of the best parts was Carroway saying Gatsby looked like he killed a man after his outburst at Buchanan, since the only man he killed was himself - the image of Jay Gatsby - in that moment of unbridled, honest fury. James Gats, murderer.
Daisy is still annoying as fuck, though. The only decision she ever makes is to get scared and run away.

It's a Baz Luhrmann movie, the guy who did the 90s version of Romeo and Juliet with guns set in Venice Beach, CA.

I was surprised at first and annoyed with the music choice too, but oddly i found the rap/hiphop shit actually fit in with the party scenes.

I was pleasantly surprised by the movie. As a director I hate Luhrmann but I enjoyed this movie. In the actual book of Gatsby, Fitzgerald makes mention of how the songs he mentions in the novel are being played because of their cutting edge modernness. So in that way, the score for the film really fit. If there was a modern Gatsby that's the music he would be playing.

I saw that. I believe it was called Romeo+Juliet? I thought the whole re-imagining of Romeo and Juliet in modern times was hilarious.
