A friend of mine is convinced that he wants to try opium, 1900s den style. He thinks it's super classy and can't be too bad because Sherlock Holmes did it, in a nutshell.
He hasn't had experience with anything except weed.

What would you tell him? I'm not sure what to say.

I'd tell him it is a relatively shit drug, that got less class than one can really imagine (today mostly used by addicted afghani soldiers) and it is one of those drugs that rapidly changes the chemical composition of the brain that in time will become the addiction etc etc.. a worthless drug, but a potent painkiller, however limited to physical pain.

I personally enjoyed opium thoroughly. The high is quite a bit milder than with the pharmaceutical extractions derived from it, and I found the addictive potential to be none too severe. It also smells like incense when you smoke it.

The high isn't worth the addiction. I'd only use it again for purely anesthetic purposes. It'll numb anything hurting.

By the way, it was never seen as classy unless you were rich and had your rich friends over.

SAGE has been used.
