Been doing digital painting for about 6 months now, any advice? I can post more if that would help...

A few more. Feedback would be much appreciated.

I really like >>754 and >>758. The first works well because the medium lends itself well to cityscapes and kind of sci fi stuff. The weird face one works well because it has this weird geometric kind of look.

>>756 and >>757 don't really work well for me because the nature of digital paint makes them look... cheesy or cartoony. The one with the fog/clouds and the car doesn't have the kind of cold grittiness that it should. It's too dry, to sterile. And the house again doesn't have the kind of dirty gritty look that would suit the subject matter.

The ones that I like it like a lot. That clean look works well for the first piece and it makes the weird geometric head look kind of otherworldly and unsettling.

So: futuristic cityscapes or sci fi stuff? Yes. Weird, geometric, vaguely scientific but strange images? Oh yes. Gritty real-world depictions? I dunno, not so much.

You've got some serious skill going on here, though. Keep it the fuck up. And, of course, if you enjoy painting things like the house then by all means keep doing it and don't listen to me.

Thanks, this is very encouraging. Maybe I'll leave the more detailed stuff til later on. I'm also a great SF fan, so it's cool that you think my stuff is suited to this

Trying out this new style at the moment, think it probably works better for the kind of thing >>760
is describing. Let me know if you want to see more...

Love it! Works really well. Very lush, not nearly as clean and sterile as the other two still-lifey pieces ITT.

I've never really liked paintings done on top of pictures tbh. I would much prefer to see some work that show's off your brushwork more, like >>758.

Do post more!

Haha You're right! I took some of the textures in that one from Google street view. I don't generally use photo-texturing but it's occasionally quite useful if you're working fast, and that piece is for an animation I'm making so I just wanted to achieve the look very quickly because there's a lot of work. I'll post a link to the film when it's finished, which should be in January or something...

As the filename says, this one's a work in progress. I still need to change overall composition, add colour and detail. Any suggestions or references as to a good direction to go in are welcome though...

By the way - I do all of these without use of a digitizer. I haven't had the money to buy one yet. Thinking of getting one in January if it's worth it.
